Certification Requirements

VIDPA membership is your guarantee that you are doing business with jewelry professionals: a staff and store that is committed to on-going gemological training; customer service of the highest caliber; and above all, integrity.

In response to concern over the ethics and consumer safety of jewelry practices on the Internet, the Verified Internet Diamond Purchasers Affiliation (VIDPA) was designed and established to better protect and serve online purchasers of Diamonds and to engender consumer confidence.

VIDPA certification is provided exclusively to web sites which are managed by Ideal Diamond Solutions (IDS) which is responsible for developing, implementing and enforcing Membership Standards and a Uniform Code of Conduct which all VIDPA members must follow.  Failure of a VIDPA member to adhere to VIDPA standards and practices may result in the affiliates VIDPA membership and/or web site being revoked.

The VIDPA Seal signifies a member’s compliance with all VIDPA Membership Standards and acceptance of all VIDPA Codes of Conduct for selling diamonds online.

Standards for Membership –All members of the VIDPA must have the following:

  1. A state of the art e-commerce web site managed by IDS,
  2. At least one GIA Certified Jeweler on staff
  3. Membership in at least one of the following industry organizations: Jewelers of America, Jewelers Vigilance Committee, or the Better Business Bureau.

Uniform Code of Conduct – All members of VIDPA undertake to:

  1. Make honest and accurate representations about Diamonds and jewelry sold online, and in particular with regard to a Diamonds “Cut” rating.
  2. Practice truth in pricing--we will not mislead customers into a false sense of value through "discounts"
    and false sales on over inflated prices.
  3. Maintain a “Conflict-Free” Policy according to the Kimberly Process prohibiting sale of Conflict or Blood Diamonds.
  4. Adhere to a recognized quality assurance policy.
  5. Offer a minimum 30 day return policy for all online purchases.
  6. Offer complementary services, free of charge, to any consumer who has purchased diamonds and/or jewelry from any other VIDPA member.  Complementary services include, but are not limited to,
    checking, cleaning, polishing, and stone tightening.
  7. Resolve all customer concerns promptly and fairly.
  8. Establish and maintain a long-term customer relationship through trust and striving for
    complete customer satisfaction.
  9. Display the VIDPA hyperlink seal on its web site enabling a visitor to link to the VIDPA home page which sets out the values, policies and codes of conduct to which affiliated members have pledged adherence. 

These membership standards and codes of conduct have been established to ensure that consumers may purchase diamonds online safely and with confidence.  We welcome any comments or helpful information to assist us in maintaining the highest level of scrutiny with regard to VIDPA certified sites.
